Nowadays, in any data centre, there is a large number of physical machines, everyone of them using its own operating system and applications. Machines are very often dedicated to specific tasks (authentication servers, tunnel terminators, web and mail servers, etc.). These systems very often have percentages of average use below 20% of their capacity. A data centre with a large number of physical machines requires available physical space to store the equipment, network points for all devices, proportional energy consumption, high costs associated with security and recovery copy operations, as well as huge efforts in administrative operations, together with related cost.
