Course aimed at systems administrators and engineers who wish to familiarize themselves with virtualization technology in general and with the Xen virtualization solution in particular.

All of the present technologies in virtualized environments will be covered: VLAN, network storage, high availability, etc.

The course participants will discover the various functions offered by Xen, the installation and configuration procedures for each one of them as well as the related complementary technologies.

This is an essentially practical course. Each student will be provided with a virtualizable laptop computer.

20 July 2007, from 8:00 to 15:00, for the preparation and exam to obtain the XSP certification.

Instructor and consultant at the training department of SUN, working in the areas of Solaris systems, networks and security. Linux server administration. C and Java programming.
Associate lecturer of the Electronics and Communication department at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca (Madrid). Teaches the Communication Laboratory (3rd year), Local Networks laboratory (4th year) and Computer Networks (4th year) subjects of the Computer Engineering degree.
Author of various publications and articles and speaker at various systems and network security seminars.

• Familiarize oneself with technologies related to environments virtualized with Xen (NFS storage/AoE/iSCSI, multipathing, DRBD data replication, HA with Heartbeat, volume management with LVM).
• Gain experience of the installation and configuration of Xen, the creation and administration of virtual machines and backup and migration procedures for virtual machines.

Intermediate level of knowledge of systems administration using Unix/Linux systems and IP network environments.

Possibility of obtaining XSP(Xen Solution Provider) certification*

• Each student will be provided with a laptop computer on which to install their own Xen system and to carry out the practical exercises.
• A storage network (SAN) will be available to execute the practical exercises.
